The law at the center of the controversy came about due to the burgeoning number of crimes in the virtual world. But the Press Council was forgotten, allowing a defamation article to slip through.

IN terms of its aims, the Law on Information & Electronic Transactions is indeed noble: eradicating crime in the virtual world of the Internet and pornographic websites. Deliberated over a period of around 18 months, the law does indeed contain sufficiently detailed articles that can send the perpetrators of crimes in the virtual world to jail.
