Tasked with Logging Corruption

The Judicial Mafia Task Force is looking into the role of the forestry mafia in the halting of cases involving 14 companies allegedly conducting illegal logging in Riau. The cases were halted simply because of testimony by expert witnesses.

FOR almost two weeks the Judicial Mafia Eradication Task Force has been kept busy by the many complaints over the handling of illegal logging cases around the country. The reports, submitted directly to the team’s headquarters on Jl. Veteran in Central Jakarta, were sent by email or simply via SMS text messages. And the people making the reports are not just environmental activists, but also social figures and even regional government officials
