Better Late than Never?

Economic, health and safety assurances must be afforded to witnesses and victims of crimes against humanity. Indonesia, however, still has no regulations to cover these matters.

Indonesia is currently witnessing legal history in the making. On Thursday March 8, Indonesia's Ad Hoc Human Rights Court was called into session for the first time. The court session concerns crimes against humanity committed in East Timor following the 1999 referendum, the plebiscite that brought about East Timor's independence from Indonesia.
