Church plot: For the Military, or a Hotel?

A plot of land belonging to the Protestant Church in Western Indonesia (GPIB) has been relinquished to the Army. But the church building and its land are heritage-listed, and may not be sold at will.

Iron scaffolding can be seen leaning against the front wall of the Immanuel Church, a neo-classical structure belonging to the Protestant Church in Western Indonesia (GPIB) located in Gambir, Central Jakarta. The scaffolding has been used by workers to enable them repair damaged parts. Built 174 years ago, the church has only been repaired in bits and pieces; it has never experienced a major overhaul. But the building still looks solid.
