Factory Owners Know `Squat'

A factory owned by a Taiwanese company in Lampung has been forced to close, its land occupied by local residents. Previously, the land had been forcibly acquired by the government.

Don't expect new investment to come flooding in when the investment that's already here is considering pulling out. According to Global Development Finance published by the World Bank, foreign investment in Indonesia in 2000 only amounted to US$ 500 million, compared to US$ 2.7 billion in 1998.
