Cyber Crime, a Brave New World

Trial has started over a case involving the pirating of an Internet website domain. As the first cyber crime to be tried in Indonesia, the case is prompting extensive legal debate.

Indonesia's criminal law is entering a brave new world. For the first time in Indonesian legal history, a case involving cyber crime is being tried at the Central Jakarta District Court. The defendant, Tjandra Sugiono, 32, is the president director of PT Djagomas, a company operating in the field of information technology. Tjandra has been accused of pirating Mustika Ratu's website domain, www.mustika-ratu.com, on the Internet.
