Several retired police officers have filed a lawsuit against Indonesia's police chief. They claim that their forced retirement breached new police regulations.

Conflict within Indonesia's police force is becoming increasingly apparent. The most recent trouble emerged when the then President Abdurrahman Wahid passed a controversial decree splitting the police force into pro-and anti-decree factions. Further conflict emerged when Wahid replaced Surojo Bimantoro with Chaeruddin Ismail as Indonesia's police chief, resulting in further fissures among the ranks.
