Although attempts to gain control over 22 islands of The Thousand Islands territory have been thwarted, Banten province officials remain intent on annexing the islands.

LAST week, Governor of Banten, Djoko Munandar, re-staked Bantens claim over the disputed islands. These claims are not based on considerations of economic potential but rather on territorial boundaries, said Munandar.
