Freedom of the Press on Trial

JUST five years after the banner of reformation was used to champion greater democracy in Indonesia, freedom of the press is being put to the test. A series of lawsuits were brought against journalists on charges of false reporting and slander. A number of media companies were also faced with the possibility of closing down as a consequence of related costly lawsuits.
