In a recent poll conducted by TEMPO (November 13, 2000 edition), 50 percent of the respondents said "No" when asked whether "the duo of Megawati Soekarnoputri-Akbar Tandjung is qualified to replace him (Gus Dur)?" Quite apart from the fact that I believe the current president should not be replaced after only one year in office, I share the doubts of those 50 percent. I, therefore, call into question People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Speaker
