A List Behind the Bloodbath

The month of September always brings us back to the tragedy of the murder of the generals and the mass killing of PKI members in 1965-66. TEMPO traces back the “dark era”: meeting of former agents of the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and the staff at the Embassy of the United States who were assigned to Jakarta around 1965. In the CIA document, which was opened to the public and later withdrawn, they were said to have played a role in the bloody incident. Did the CIA truly compile a “target list” of PKI members to be exterminated? Here are their answers.
