The Forgotten Centhini

Centhini is no longer sung at the Solo Palace where it originated from, as well as at the Yogya Palace.

Four men dressed in traditional suit, complete with iket blangkon mondolan, and four women dressed in black kebaya janggan, sit cross-legged at Sri Manganti Hall in the Yogyakarta Palace. In front of them stands a small table on which lies Babad Mataram written in Javanese. Every Friday they would recite strophes from the Javanese chronicle. On that particular Friday they sang verses from Bedhah Madiun, the history of Madiun.
