PERTAMINA—once the wealthiest state company in Indonesia’s history—has recorded an ironic “prestige” throughout its windy development: it was continually a cause of state losses due to corruption and manipulation since its establishment in 1957. This company was like a “golden warehouse” that was freely penetrated from all sides, and in all periods of operation.
