We met at the exhibition room of Taman Ismail Marzuki (TIM) in 1976now only a distant memory. A grand painting exhibition (involving all Indonesian painters) was being prepared. A number of people were hanging the paintings on the walls while we were walking around. When we were in front of a wall, I told him that that was the best painting, my thumb pointing to a portrait of Affandi by Hardi. This work was a caricature of Affandi, who two year
