Malay writers have preserved the Russo-Turkish war in literature.

Jakartas poet Tan Teng Kie penned an interesting poem in 1891. Though not an extraordinary work of art, it records a major event that took place one year earlier, the visit of Russias Prince Nicholas II to Java.

Sobat baca karangan ini,
Putra Rus sobatnya kumpeni,
Pandang Makota sabarnya tani,
Hamba sangka blom berbini.
