Simon Winchester: "The Krakatoa eruption triggered Islamic radicalism in Java"

I'm not a very good geologist," said Simon Winchester, describing himself. The author of the book Krakatoa had indeed, once studied geology at Oxford University in 1966, and even did some geological work, such as in Uganda and South Africa. But Simon really wanted to write and travel around the world, so he became a journalist instead, joining The Guardian newspaper for a long period of time.

His self-evaluation as a geologist notwithstanding
