AMONG Western academics, especially those with huge reputations, writing memoirs is a tradition. However, not many such books are written by researchers on Southeast Asia or, more specifically, Indonesia. As far as I can recall, only Clifford Geertz who is considered anthropology ambassador on social sciences, published his memo
