DURING the early 1950s Pedoman was the newspaper with the largest circulation. Many thought that its large circulation was due to the fact that I was a member of the PSI (Indonesian Socialist Party) which at the time had Pedoman as their party newspaper. As a matter of fact it was not the PSI that funded Pedoman but rather I who offered to make it a pro-PSI newspaper because to tell you the truth the PSI never had enough funds to set up a newspap
