TIME and again Ramidi yawned. Sleepiness, exhaustion, and boredom overcame this member of the polling station committee (PPS) at Kampung Sumur, Klender, East Jakarta, Monday two weeks ago. For 10 hours at a stretch, from 1pm that day, together with the other members of the committee, he had been tallying the newspaper-size ballots one by one. Yet, the work seemed never to get done.
