The Flag is Lowered, Tempers are Raised

There was no declaration of independence on December 1. On the contrary, several important Papuan activists were arrested, and there were outbreaks of violence.

As a result of the flag issue, seven people died last Saturday in Merauke. Six civilians were felled by bullets and one was struck in the back and neck by arrows.
