Senopati used to be a ferry for short haul trips. The vessel transformation is presumed to be the cause of the disaster.

Stay calm, easy. Nothing wrong with the boat These words were repeatedly shouted by some of the Senopati Motor Vessel crew members. But the advice failed to pacify over 600 passengers on board the Senopati. The boat, which had looked proud when leaving the Kumai port, Central Kalimantan, was gradually tilting to the left. After repeated slamming by five-meter-high waves, the Senopati sank in the Mandalika waters off Jepara.
