THE deadly cycle comes around every five years, drowning Jakarta in a wave of floodwaters. The water works its way into every corner of the city, becoming the face of a capital city broken apart like a fighter defeated early in the morning. From within the whirlpool, humanity battles against the toll of death. They hug inner tubes, hang off the sides of rubber boats, or just flounder on top of tree trunks.
