Thirty years of his career has been spent as a bureaucrat. That is how Fauzi Bowo knows well the intricacies of the Jakarta City administration. He has gone through a number of positions, from government bureau chief to tourism director and now, Deputy Governor. His subordinates, his seniors and even his colleagues call him a true bureaucrat.

Born on April 10, 1948, Fauzi comes from a Betawi (native Jakartan) family. He spent his youth in the Me
