Bloody Reprisal on Jalan Ampera
The police are accused of being slow to anticipate a clash between two youth groups in front of the South Jakarta District Court. There is a real possibility of reprisals.

THE tension at the district court on Jl. Ampera Raya in South Jakarta on Wednesday last week had been palpable since early morning. Since 9am, around 100 heavily built youths had been gathering on the courthouse grounds. Although none appeared to be carrying sharp weapons, the looks on the faces of the men—most of whom originated from Maluku—suggested that they were on “high alert.”
