The Shiite-inclined school was attacked by Pasuruan’s Ahlussunnah wal Jamaah followers in East Java. They are also fighting over a mosque.

HUNDREDS of young men revved their motorcycle engines along the Bangil-Pasuruan highway, East Java, on Tuesday last week. Most were clad in a sarong and koko (Islamic white long-sleeved shirt). The deafening sound of the engines became more intense when they reached the front of the Pesantren (Islamic boarding school) Al-Ma’hadul at the Kenep village, Beji subdistrict, Pasuruan.
