After 18 months of military embargo, there are suggestions Washington may be about to renew its old ties with the controversial Indonesian military.

An editorial in the Washington Post got the rumor mill turning. It suggested the new administration in Washington might reverse the policy of its predecessor on Indonesia. Instead of slapping embargoes on the Indonesian military, it would embrace the feared TNI as a force to contain violence while Indonesia lurches towards stable democracy.
