THE friendly get-together held during early Monday afternoon last week proceeded without much evident enthusiasm. As the Minister for Justice and Human Rights who had been inaugurated less than a week, Amir Syamsuddin was trying to be polite: he had asked for this opportunity to meet his more senior Democrat Party colleagues from the House of Representatives (DPR) Law Commission, with whom he would be working.

After lunchtime, the get-together beg
