AS the crash suddenly stopped the train in its tracks, a number of standing passengers fell backwards. A moment of inertia. In shock, we passengers aboard carriage four of the Commuter Line on the Serpong-Tanah Abang route, at noon on Monday last week could only guess that the train had suffered a power failure. A few seconds later, somebody screamed, "Fire!"

Panic ensued. We stormed the carriage's doors, but they wouldn't budge. Attempts to break
