Fired and Rehired

Ignasius Jonan received the unexpected invitation through his cell phone at 11pm on Thursday a fortnight ago. The caller, State Secretary Pratikno, invited him to his official residence at Widya Chandra Complex, South Jakarta, the next morning. Jonan accepted the invitation.

Pratikno extended President Joko Widodo's offer for Jonan to rejoin the cabinet. Jokowi had removed Jonan from the post of transportation minister during the cabinet reshuffle last July. "At the time, he (Pratikno) told me I might be reassigned," said Jonan to Tempo at the presidential palace complex last week.
