Growing distrust between indigenous Acehnese and Javanese migrants is threatening to further complicate the conflict. Now the military is reportedly forming a Javanese militia to fight the rebels.

More bodies are being counted in Central Aceh. Within a month from June to late last week, the armed conflict in the area has seen at least 148 people killed, 12,000 forced to flee their homes and thousands of houses burned.
