Take Down or Pay

The government will impose fines on digital platform operators such as social media if they fail to immediately remove ‘problematic’ contents. Various groups oppose this regulation, seen as stifling the freedom of expression.

A 20-page letter from the United States-ASEAN Business Council arrived at the office of the Communication and Informatics Ministry in mid-March. Signed by the agency’s Senior Vice President and Regional Managing Director, Michael W. Michalak, the letter calls into question various plans to regulate content on digital platforms such as social media.
