Those Whose Rights are Taken Away

Domestic workers in Indonesia are extremely vulnerable. The law on the protection of domestic workers would protect them.

SITI Khotimah, a domestic worker, has lain in a hospital bed at the Kramat Jati National Police Hospital in East Jakarta for almost three months. On Thursday, March 2, burns on her two ankles were still clearly visible. A thick gauze wrapped around her right leg, while the burn still gaped on her left leg.

The 23-year-old woman was only able to walk this past week. According to her doctor, Siti’s right leg suffers from muscle contracture.
