The two army officers with closely cropped hair and clean-shaven faces looked weary as they marched slowly out of the military police headquarters in Jakarta last Wednesday afternoon. They were being escorted to a car and were taken to the military police detention lockup. Another officer suspected of being involved in the killing was interrogated until dusk.

The three officers of the Army Special Forces Command known as Kopassus, whose me
