The Governor's `Red-Letter' Day

Things seem to always go wrong for elected governors who do not receive their party's endorsement. Sanctions have been meted out, while Mega says she doesn't play favorites.

A BIG, white marquee was set up on the grounds of the South Sumatra regional House of Representatives (DPRD) Building on Friday morning, September 12. Dozens of red folding chairs were lined up underneath. In a few moments, about one thousand guests were to arrive. This was the day that the governor-elect of South Sumatra, Syahrial Oesman, and deputy governor, Mahyuddin, were to be inaugurated.

As the sun rose, the guests started arriving.
