Fighting between rebels and security forces continues in Aceh despite a renewed truce signed by representatives of the Free Aceh Movement (GAM) and the Indonesian government in Geneva last September.
Last week, government troops attacked rebel camps in four villages—Cot Baroh, Cot Tutong, Simpang Raya, and Tanoh Mirah—in Pidie. Eyewitnesses said the clashes began when a combined army-police patrol was ambushed by rebels in Cot Baroh.
