Hartati Gets Conditional Release
ON JULY 23, corruption convict Siti Hartati Murdaya was granted a conditional release. The businesswoman who had bribed Buol Regent Amran Batalipu had served two thirds of her prison term of two years and eight months.
Indonesia Corruption Watch Coordinator Emerson Yuntho has asked the government to review the decision. He argues that under Government Regulation No. 99/2012, in order to obtain a conditional release, a corruption convict must not only have served two thirds of their sentence, but also become a justice collaborator and obtain a recommendation from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK)-neither of which Siti has done.
