HIS full name was Husein Mutahar, born in Semarang almost 88 years ago—August 5, 1916, to be exact. His name would not be famous far and wide if he had not written two compulsory national songs that every Indonesian sings at all times: Syukur (Thanks be to God), a hymn, and Hari Merdeka (Independence Day), a marching song.
