FUAD Hassan was like a ray of fresh hope when he was appointed Minister of Education in 1985, replacing Nugroho Notosusanto who was unable to complete his ministerial term of office. Fuad was a psychologist (the first doctor of psychology to graduate from the Faculty of Psychology of the University of Indonesia), a reader of literary works (he translated several foreign works), a popular lecturer, a fair violinist, and a billiard enthusiast.
