Off the Shelves, Up the Price

Pertamina needs to be more open about the production and marketing costs of LPG. If subsidies must be given, they should be directed at small businesses.

WHEN people talk about LPG, it's always the same story: first it's hard to find, then it reappears with a higher price. This happened again at the beginning of February. Once the goods reappeared on the market, Pertamina, the state-owned company that produces LPG, had raised the price by Rp150 per kilogram to Rp3,000 per kilogram, or Rp35,000 to Rp38,000 per canister.
