Change and the Ethnic Chinese

WE do not know exactly when the first generation of Chinese set foot in this archipelago. What we do know is that in contrast to westerners who came here to plunder and trade this nation's natural resources, they came in search of new lands at a time when their villages were stricken by disaster and violent power struggles.
