Politics by Acclamation

The recent elections of political party chiefs have hurt democracy in Indonesia. Political reforms can be stymied because of it.

If politics by acclamation as was the case with three political parties which recently chose their leaders is any measure, then reforms in this country have only gone as far as sloganeering. One can even say that political parties act as if they were still under the New Order, practicing questionable and unethical politics with varying degrees of quality. Let there be no misunderstanding. This criticism is not aimed at the chosen leader.
