AMBALAT has become a new terminology in public discussions. The oil exploration block located off the East Kalimantan coast is prominently in the news these days, following a dispute over which nation owns the oil- and gas-rich area. Triggering the clash were the arrest and torture of Indonesian workers building a lighthouse on that block—Unarang Reef to be exact—by a Malaysian Navy patrol.
