A teacher is being sued because she wrote a book about a criminal case involving a prominent figure. Defamation is being used to threaten academic freedom.

RETNO Listyarti, a senior high school teacher in Jakarta, wrote a book on citizenship to fulfil the requirements of the 2004 curriculum. One chapter in the book covers the issue of corruption. The example used is the case of Akbar Tandjung and the State Logistics Agency, Bulog. In that case, Akbar was eventually set free by the Supreme Court.
