Not a Religious Offense

A judge has ruled that Yusman Roy did not commit a religious offense. He was tried and sentenced for reciting prayers in two languages.

THE ruling finally came from Kepanjen, a small town in East Java: Yusman Roy committed no religious offense by prayers in two languages. The leader of Pondok Pesantren I’tikaf Jemaah Ngaji Lelaku at Kalirejo village was merely pronounced guilty of violating Article 157, which is “spreading hatred and enmity.” He was not guilty of committing a religious offense, as per Article 156a of the Criminal Code.
