Users of cellular telephones can no longer buy pre-payment cards without registering their identities. This is to prevent fraud and terrorism.

IT is as easy to buy a cell-phone number as it is to buy fried bananas. Competition between operators has led to prices falling. With only Rp15,000, a person can buy a pre- payment phone card with the same amount of credit. If the owner of the number feels he no longer wants to use it, perhaps because too many people know the number or because he no longer likes it, he just throws it away and buys another.
