ACCEPTING defeat is harder than celebrating victory, particularly if we are talking about a candidate in a regional election who has expended considerable time, energy and money in an election. But that is the most rational approach to preserve democracy and the norms of governance.

Without such an awareness, there is only regret, and this is often released in the form of violent acts. Just look at the actions of the supporters of Lukas Enembe and
