Bakrie...Again

It seems inappropriate for state banks to be extending huge amounts of credit to a Bakrie Group subsidiary when the obligations of Lapindo, another of its companies, is being borne by the government.

THE government is giving the Bakrie Group too much special treatment. Only recently, PT Lapindo Brantas, a member of the conglomerate, received a loan of Rp3.8 trillion. The money, which came from state funds, will be used to rebuild the infrastructure wrecked as a result of the hot mudflow at Lapindo’s gas drilling site in Sidoarjo.
