Faint Praise

Indonesia and Singapore have signed the long-awaited extradition treaty, but the road is still a long one. There is little reason to be overexcited.

LET us start with the positive. After more than 30 years, the Singapore government has finally agreed to sign an extradition treaty with Indonesia. Retroactively valid for 15 years, the treaty will have one important impact: Indonesian criminals who fled to Singapore will have to be returned to Indonesia, and vice versa.
