Putting Parties in Order

The Constitutional Court has allowed independent candidates to run in regional elections. The same should apply for legislative and presidential elections.

The Constitutional Court deserves a thumbs-up. Last week, it granted an appeal for a revision of Law No. 32/2004 on Regional Elections. In essence, political parties are no longer the only entities that can nominate candidates. Those who do not belong to any party, known as independent candidates, can now take part.
