Don’t Force a Sole Basis
Parties must be free to choose their fundamental principles as long as they do not conflict with Pancasila. Enforcing principles can only hurt democracy.

THE members of the Special Committee for the Political Parties Bill at the House of Representatives (DPR) should not spend too much time debating on the fundamentals of political parties. Apart from a waste of energy and resources, it could result in delays in enacting important laws, among them, one that would determine the eligibility of those desiring to run in the 2009 elections.
